New AITT course helps protect managers and their teams in forklift operations
Focused training addresses a major gap in supervisor safety awareness
AITT has launched a new, accredited one-day course designed to give managers and supervisors the skills they need to spot and prevent unsafe practices in forklift operations.
The course tackles a common – and potentially dangerous – misconception: that general safety training from another industry or role is enough to comply with current legislation. AITT warns that without targeted training, many supervisors are unprepared to identify risks or take action to keep people safe.
AITT Managing Director Liam Knight explained: “Every year, we hear of accidents that happen because supervisors either don’t realise something is dangerous, or feel pressured to turn a blind eye. Often, that’s because their training wasn’t specific enough.
“Under PUWER 98, it's a legal requirement that managers and supervisors are adequately trained for the equipment and roles they oversee. There’s a widespread misconception that general training from another industry is enough. But that doesn’t give managers the skills to spot bad practice in forklift operations — and it can leave both people and businesses at risk.”
The course is delivered by AITT-accredited providers and results in a nationally recognised qualification. Its one-day format is designed to be accessible for busy managers while still covering all the essential information to promote safe, compliant operations.
“One of the biggest barriers to safety training is time,” Liam added. “Many managers simply can’t afford 3-5 days away from work. This course is focused, practical and efficient. It gives managers the tools to understand what makes an operation safe — and how to intervene when something isn’t right.”
“And because it’s delivered by an AITT-accredited provider, you can be confident the training is compliant and meets the highest industry standards.”
